Alameda of Praça República

1 review of Alameda of Praça República

A good starting point to visit Portimao

The Alameda da Praça da República is a starting point for visiting the city of Portimão. It is a very big square where there is an underground parking lot which connects the main pedestrian and shopping streets of the city. At one end there is a garden with a playground, and the monument to Mayor Nuno Mergulhão. On the north side, facing the fountain, is the College Church of the Jesuits (in the year 1660 this College Church was declared Property of Public Interest), and next to it the Board of Portimão and Freguesía Gallery Diogo Gonçalves (which has one of the most important collections of modern paintings of the Algarve).
