The biggest ruin bar in Budapest

Ankert takes the concept of a ruin bar to the next level. The younger sibling of Budapest's legendary Anker Klub, Ankert is a sprawling open-air bar, restaurant, and cultural center located in Budapest's District 7, an area which ranks highly on almost every travel magazine's list of “coolest neighborhoods in the world.”

As Ankert is based around a huge 800-square meter courtyard, it's closed during the winter months but during the spring, summer, and fall, it's an ideal place to go for a cold Hungarian craft beer in the sunshine or to catch a film or hear some live music in the evenings. The courtyard itself is big enough for literally hundreds of people and there is a massive bar serving up everything from homemade burgers to tropical cocktails to local beers and more. As you move inside, you'l find more bars, an indoor restaurant area, and a huge space that they use to show films (oddly enough, they were showing some 1970's American police movie when we went) or host dance parties with live DJ's.
