Cathedral of arucas and surroundings

When in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, I recommend you go visit a place outside of the capital, near the Barranco de Tenoya. There you will find a neo-gothic style town, where there are many historical buildings in the streets; the majority of them have a nineteenth-century architectonic style. The town of Arucas is known as Ciudad del Ron (Rum City), since it houses the Arehucas distilleries, the biggest in Canarias.

1.5 km north of town is the Arucas Mountain, 412 meters. It is the highest peak of the city. It has a restaurant that serves regional dishes and drinks, so you can enjoy a gastronomic route and you can enjoy some wonderful panoramic views of the island.

In Arucas there is a church that is erroneously called cathedral. It was built using volcanic stone and it has a tower 60 m high, making it the highest church or the archipelago. It was designed by the Catalonian architect Manuel Vega i March in 1909, although it was completed in 1977. Inside we can find parts with a neo-gothic style and others in conventional style. It has impressive stained glass windows and altarpieces.

Artistic treasure

It is important to highlight the church of San Juan Bautista, popularly known as the Cathedral of Arucas.

Even though it is not a cathedral and that its original configuration dates back to the 17th century, the current church was built using a neo-gothic style at the beginning of the 20th century. Inside it houses a considerable artistic treasure, with sculptural pieces of Italian origin, Flemish paintings and from the school of Andalucía, as well as works by Cristóbal Hernández de Quintana.

Ron city arucas honey

Arucas is a beautiful city of Gran Canaria, well known for its spectacular Cathedral. Fabulously maintained and beautiful for all its colors. It reminded me of the Antigua Guatemala. It is worth a visit. Stunning views from the Mountain. Silent gardens that encourage rest and peace. Highly recommended for your visit to this island full of surprises. You can eat nearby in Firgas: do not miss the Asadero The Embers I've left a photo of the entrance where you put your website ' http://www.lasbrasas.net').

Many call Cathedral, but it is a church dedicated to San Juan Bautista. A walk around is always a delight.

Black stone

The Cathedral of San Juan Bautista in Arucas hand carved in basalt.

Arucas is a town with so much history...

Arucas is a town with so much history and so important, at least in the past, because the old city acquired the category of city. Among its monuments, the Church of San Juan is remarkable, built in the past century, although with the magnificence of the cathedrals of previous centuries. It is distinguished by its stone ornaments. Arucas is a place that visitors to Gran Canaria should not miss.

The church of san juan bautista, know...

The church of San Juan Bautista, known as "The Cathedral of Arucas" is the work of the Catalan architect Manuel Vega March, neo-Gothic style and built with input from the people. I lived for 5 years Arucas and the most beautiful thing that has impressed me in this town is this amazing church, both outside and inside.
