An trip to see the geysers, salt flats, Valley of the Moon, colored lagoons, and the night sky was a really incredible experience. It's the world's driest place and, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.
This place is about 4,000 meters above sea level and there aren't gas stations so you should bring an extra supply. Bringing your own gas also gives you a degree of autonomy so you can keep exploring at your own pace. In Chile, the months of July and August are winter and it gets pretty cold, although the days re better. January is the rainy season so that also makes the trek a bit more difficult. You can rent a car or, better yet, a 4x4 SUV in Antofagasta or Calama.
This is a park in the middle of the Atacama Desert where every so often, and after a rainy period, the area comes to life with a myriad of colours. The plants bloom by seeds buried in the earth that have waited patiently for the rain.
