Blackfriars' Monastery

Blackfriars' Monastery

1 review of Blackfriars' Monastery

A historic location

Having arrived in Canterbury in search of land to settle, the Blackfriar monks (their name comes from the color of the clothes they wore) received a present from King Henry III, ve gave them the land surrounding the canals, and enough money to build several priories. Few of them have survived the Reformation, but at least two can still be seen, overlooking the canals.
