Caldeira velha (são miguel)

Caldeira Vellha or Caldera Vieja in Spanish is one of the most popular on the island, and is a natural monument. It is reached by the road that runs from the Lagoa do Fogo at Ribeira Grande, and what we found, after a short walk along a wooden walkway between thick vegetation quaternary aspect, is a medium-sized pool in which falls a cascade of cold water. You are surrounded by giant ferns, I had only seen this size in New Zealand, and is a perfect (and free) way to finish an exhausting day of touring the island. I jumped into the pool for a bit of relaxation, and by the time we had to return, it was almost dark. I certainly didn't want to leave this lovely place.

Natural baths of hot water

Near the town of Ribeira Grande, in the EN 5-2A toward the Laguna Das Fogo is recognized as a natural regional monument Azores Islands. Here you find a varied and exotic vegetation. Since numerous laurel forests that line the banks lichens of small creeks that run through the area. It also has lakes and ponds, hot springs, as in the case of the Caldeira Velha in which we found a waterfall that flows through the rock to a pool of warm emerald waters. The water leaves reflecting its passage in the rock that turns a reddish orange color. If we add to this the intense green of the surrounding vegetation understand why the name of this lake. Walking around this area is a great way to spend the day watching the huge contrast existing or without the circumstances require, enjoying a swim in the waters of the Caldeira Velha.

Relaxing thermal pools in sao miguel

On the island of Sao Miguel, in the Azores, and although not a destination of sun and beach, there are many options to enjoy the water and the bathroom. One of them is the thermal pools that are inside the island, as CALDEIRA VELHA, near Lagoa de Fogo. It has two areas. The first one you find is the water about 38 degrees Celsius, and has little background (I estimate that no more than 70 cm). It is very relaxing to sit within this small pool for a while, to be more or less long depending on what each hold at that temperature. Undoubtedly the most natural spa I've ever been in my life, which explains along with it was July, it was permanent full time dur during our visit. It would not be all perfect! The other area bath has a temperature of about 22 degrees, more covers and also occupies a greater extension. A small waterfall falls to the bottom feeding the waterfall. Unlike the previous pool, with a little patience we could baarnos practically alone. Me extra but you have to pay an entrance fee (it seems that until 2013 was free, but in that year was constructed on campus a Centre of Interpretao and began to charge admission understand that to cover maintenance costs and personnel. It was not excessive 2 euros per person I think, but better to know before you go. I find it ideal for a da cloudy or rainy alternative plan. we were one day we owed planned skirting the crater of Sete Cidades, but as the fog was going to prevent we see the sights in conditions, we went to Caldeira Velha. About the time on the island, and to adapt excursions to the meteorolgicas conditions, I recommend you consult each morning spotazores.com, site in thanks to webcams is displayed in real time as is the sky in key locations around the island. a very useful result m me during my trip to Sao Miguel fantstico.

Pool of semi-natural plastic with waterfalls

In Lagoa do Fogo road to Ribeira Grande other natural paradise. Follow the signs for Old boiler, leave your car in the parking lot and walk the beautiful nature and incredible plants with lush ferns as tall as 4 meters. You will find a first boiler very similar to Furnas and then at the end of l way she was ... a wonderful pool of semi-natural plastic with two waterfalls ... a lighter and stronger ... where It begins an incredible and powerful massage to the back. Another experience to not lose on an island to surprising as the St. Michael that surprises at every corner exceptional !!!! Near the pool so defined cabinette some wood, where you can change ... I'm a little 'falling apart, but useful for the purpose !!! Not knowing what I would find I had used the same fantasy "expendable" I had used the ferruginous pool Terra Nostra, but here the clear water and stain. The background in smooth but full of stones ... round ... but knees proof ... be careful when swimming !!!!
