Cenotes Tamcach-Ha & Choo-Ha

1 review of Cenotes Tamcach-Ha & Choo-Ha

Bathing in a cave

It's a 10 minutes drive from the ruins of Coba, right next to another natural well called Tamchach-ha. Choo-Ha, in Spanish means "falling water", because inside there are many stalactites which are continuously filtering water. When you arrive the first thing they ask is if you are going to bathe. If you are you have to shower beforehand, to get rid of any sunscreen or general dust and dirt on your body...it's done to conserve the well water. There is a booth to change clothes and an outdoor shower. Then you have to go down some fairly steep wooden stairs; be very careful as it's pretty humid and you might slip. As you go down you can almost touch the stalactites and stalagmites, once down you can walk through the cave. It is shallow and the waters are fairly transparent. There are some pretty tiny fish. They are open from 08:00 to 17:00.
