Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple

7 reviews of Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple

The Reclining Buddha of Chaukhtagyi

This pagoda is very near the Shwedagon Pagoda. Inside, there is a huge reclining Buddha measuring about 70 meters long and taller than a six-story building. The pagoda was built in 1907 on behalf of the merchant Sir-Phoe Tha and was restored in 1970 with donations from the faithful. It's a must-visit in Yangon.

A "falla" from Valencia

The Temple of Chaukhatgyi has the biggest Reclining Buddha in Myanmar. It looks a bit like a "falla" from Valencia and has the face of a transvestite, but the church as a whole is charming, especially Buddhist monks who come to him for pray, many pilgrims also engaged in spinning his alrrededor. The reclining Buddha is 72 meters long and is located in downtown Yangon
