Chiapa de Corzo City

Chiapa de Corzo is located 14 km from Tuxtla Gutierrez and 62 km from San Cristobal de las Casas. To get there, go on Highway 190, or take the No. 195 from Tuxtla Gutierrez. Founded on March 1, 1528 by Captain Diego de Mazariegos, it was originally given the name Villa Real de Chiapa. Highlights in this area are the jetty Gully Canyon, the ruins of the former convent of Santo Domingo, the island of Cahuaré, the great bell of the church of Santo Domingo and the kiosk-crown. The bus dropped us off at the edge of town, on the same road that goes on to the capital Tuxtla. Just after getting off we found a market where we bought a few pieces of fruit and asked the way to the pier.
