Church of saint nicholas

This church is right on the corner of Market Square, St. Nicholas is the patron saint of the merchants in this location. It is one of the oldest churches in Brussels. It has undergone several reconstructions, it is believed that it was built on the site of a former eighth century temple. It was sacked in 1579 and partly destroyed in a bombing in 1695, the last renovation was in 1956, but the ancient parts inside have been preserved. The choir dates back to 1381, and in it there's a picture of the Virgin that's attributed to Rubens. Curiously, the Altar Mayor chapel is turned sideways.

It's the first time i see a church su...

It's the first time I see a church surrounded by jewelry attached to the facade. The Church of St. Nicholas is located in the heart of the city, near the Grande Place (which took place the Great Market), opposite the Stock Exchange. Perhaps the shareholders who have had a good day, go directly to buy a fancy to celebrate. Anyway, I noticed and asked the clerk at one of the shops. The first I knew nothing but that trade was 75 years of activity. The second attempt was more decisive. I told the gentleman what are now jewelry, shelters were once homeless, stuck to the XII century chapel for protection ... In any case, gold and gemstones watches, earrings and rings, give a peculiar and striking luster to the Church of St. Nicholas. A detail. The sign indicating the street name in French and Flemish something that always happens in Brussels. However, what is new here is that the street has also acquired the name of the comic book characters Boule et Bill. Belgium is the birthplace of the genre.

No one knows the date of the founding...

No one knows the date of the founding of this church, but what we do know is that it has undergone changes and more changes for several reasons: It was looted, bombed, beaten ... And there it remains, because although it has suffered blows never completely crumble. In 1954 it was restored and became a different picture, I must say that when I saw this church seemed very new. The oldest part of this church is the choir, which dates from 1381!! But the window of the back (Our Lady of the Assumption of Guy Chabrol) is the last restoration in 1956.

Always risen

The Gothic church of St. Nicholas is located in the tourist center of Brussels, near the Grand Place. It was founded as a chapel in the twelfth century, of which little remains. The present church, complete with a choir in 1381, was damaged by bombing in 1695 and the fall of the tower in 1714 and always restored (the last time in 1954). Inside you point out the parts of furniture in the style of Louis XIV, and in particular a beautiful golden ark with figures of saints. Outside however is a bit 'impression of seeing the same building include jewelers and shops.

Sempre risorta

Church pattern traders

Coming from the stock exchange building, before entering the Grand Place, we find the small church of St. Nicholas, one of the oldest churches in Brussels, the patron saint of merchants, so called because the side or rather in the same corner of the church, was the market, which currently is the Grand Place.

Nicolas church

Located just steps from the Grand Place, St. Nicolas church is one of the oldest in Brussels since its foundation dating back to the twelfth century. Damaged several times due including bombings, it has undergone several renovations that have caused some changes in its architecture. Interior furnishings, like Louis XIV has meanwhile changed ever since the thirteenth century, making this a true baroque church museum.

Eglise saint-nicolas
