Charming Lake District village

Excellent

Coniston is one of the smallest, most remote and most charming villages to be found in England's Lake District. It's not too easy to access by road as it's located between a small mountain range (the highest peak, the Old Man of Coniston, is about 805 metres), and the lake that bears the same name as the town. It is famous among fans of hiking, as there are more than 30 different routes nearby. And around the lake, people can enjoy a more gentle walk. It's not the cheapest place to spend the night, but if you're going to stay for a few days or a week, you can rent a charming, typical rural cottage with a fireplace.
