The Augustinian monastery belongs to an order of beggars, created in the Middle Ages, and which established itself outside the walls of the city, where the poorest people lived. They preached, they healed themselves and they lived amongst themselves, just like the Augustinians, ve appeared in the XIII century. The monastery occupied a large building that reached the Cours Mirabeau. It was a complete extension of the city. The city gate was moved next to the convent and was named the door of the Augustinians. The square bell tower was built in 1472 with an octagonal floor. In 1667, a beautiful wrought iron dome was added, to protect the bells against strong winds.
