Courtyard of the Conservatory Palace

In the Palace of the Capitoline Museums courtyard are some of the fragments of a statue of Constantine I the Great, who during his tenure in Rome began a building program of self tributes that would fill Rome, and the cities of the empire, with his image and memories. These fragments were discovered in the Roman Forum in the west apse of the Basilica of Maxentius. A curiosity of this statue is that marble was only used for 'naked' parts of the body body, the rest of the body gilded bronze and stucco.
