The Calvary Mount

Calvary is in the outskirts of the town of Banska Stiavnica, inside an ancient extinct volcano with a strong mining tradition. This impressive monument can be seen as you approach the town, as it is located along the side of a mountain. Houses represent the stages of the ordeal in the path of ascent and descent in different scenes from the life of Jesus. It also contains three buildings, one is an information center. The second the Church of the stairs, a curious church located on the side. You have to climb the stairs to the small chapel, with many frescoes on both ceiling and walls. Finally at the end of the tour you get to the church.
