Playa El Médano

The two times that I’ve been in Tenerife I have stayed in Puerto de la Cruz and I have always driven to El Médano to get to this beach.

Personally, I think it is one of the best beaches in Tenerife, and it is not as crowded as the Los Cristianos or Las Américas. The sand is somewhat dark but not as black as the one in the north of Tenerife, with a lot of swell, and it is a beach that is very frequented by surfers. It is located only 5 km away from the southern airport (Reina Sofía), and it is very common to see planes flying in the sky.

I recommend that you go to this magnificent beach and enjoy its calmness.

The Médano beach, better known as “Playa Grande”, and it is located at the end of the pedestrian area of El Médano, in front of Plaza El Médano.

It is usually full of families and children in the left part, since it is close to hotels and rental apartments; it is also near the bus stops. To the right it is usually full of surfers and windsurfers, due to the wind.

A great beach, large and the thing that it has lots of red partículas from the mountain makes the sand look a bit red, which is pretty awesome. The surprise that we had at arriving there was that is a mixt beach, but for us it wasn't an inconvenient.

This beach is ideal for relaxing; it is one of my favorite places.

This part of the island of Tenerife is really special during the first and last hours of the day.
