At the Peak

Excellent

It’s amazing to go up until the lighthouse, discover its paths and getting lost in its hiding places. The access is reached from the port and the marketplace.

One very friendly local signaled a sort of path to go up the ramp: a path made of slate so crumbly that even the animals make it creak as they pass. There is nothing more amazing…it is a vertical path excavated between the roofs and walls of the restaurants.

All the ashlars that form the steps are irregular, without any type of architectural law, giving both a sense of height and vertigo when looking back.

In the first hour of the morning, the mist that parts the city draws one of the best sights of the Basque Country: the town is diametrically divided into two parts, each with its own beach.

A View of the Sea

Getaria is a small fishing town located in the coast of Gipuzkoa, only 28 kilometers from San Sebastián.

It is a nice fishing village worth visiting. Their restaurants are famous for their grilled fish and their “chacolí”, white wine from the land.

With the Shape of a Mouse

In Getaria there is a hiking path that crosses the txakoli (or chacolí, white wine) vineyards as well as some other farmhouses.

From the slope you can see the famous mouse in the distance…but there is always something else nearby that will also catch your attention.
