1 review of Farragut State Park

Great camping and nice beaches for lake swimming

Farragut State Park is a scenic nature reserve right off Lake Pend Orielle near Athol, Idaho and the Silverwood Theme Park. Thanks to its location on the lake and variety of sandy beaches, Farragut State Park is one of the best places to spend a summer afternoon in the Idaho Panhandle.

The park was actually once a WWII Navy training facility and there's actually a Navy museum within the park, something unusual in a beautiful but landlocked state like Idaho. Anyways, the park itself is huge and there are tons of marked trails that'll take you around the lake and give you a chance at stopping whitetail deer and mountain goats. If you're looking to do some camping, I'd suggest renting a cabin in one of the Whitetail campsites. They have clean bathrooms and barbecue grills and is a perfect way to spend a weekend out in Mother Nature without having to go full-on camping in the woods. Do be careful, though, as there are tons of mosquitoes and wasps in the springtime.
