History of Decay
If you had to choose a picture to represent decay, this would be perfect. This is the parish church of Santa María de Fiães, a small parish of 300 inhabitants in the municipality of Melgaço. Not very impressive, is it? However, a monastery once stood here (only the Church remains and some minor debris), which was the mightiest power in the country after the King himself. The people who were in charge didn't have to go to war or participate in building forts, except 9 people for the stronghold of Melgaço.
