2 reviews of Fountains Abbey

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Located in the magnificent Studley Royal Park in Yorkshire in northern England, the ruins of Fountains Abbey are the most impressive part of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. This former abbey was founded in the early twelfth century after the thirteen who suffered exile after the troubles of Saint Mary arrived here and were granted a place to establish a new monastery by the Archbishop of York. It functioned for five centuries but today we only see the magnificent ruins that illustrate the grandeur of the once-been monastery.
