A huge sculpture

It was night when we got to town, and our attention was called by a huge sculpture, illuminated by four powerful spotlights. In the morning we learned that this was the monument of Fray Anton de Montesinos, a Dominican friar known for protecting the indigenous Tanos from abuse from Spanish settlers. He was famous for his sermon of Advent in 1511. The monument was donated to the Dominican Republic by the Mexican government in 1982, and is located at the entrance of Puerto Ozama, on the banks of the river. It was designed by architect Pedro Ramirez Vazquez.
