Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa Monastery

1 review of Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa Monastery

Essential visit in Manali

Built in 1960 this Buddhist temple is a place of pilgrimage for many Tibetans who are refugees from the Chinese invasion of their country. People come from near and far, from major cities like Ladakh or Spiti or from small towns and villages to see the great statue of Buddha housed inside. In addition, there are other beautiful large Buddha statues, tanka paintings, scrolls, murals, stone carvings, texts and pictures that provide small but great art shows the town. Both inside and outside the temple care is given to every detail filling the place with color and making it a little bit magical. Despite being very close to the center of Manali (next to the market square) as you go into the temple you escape the vortex of this small town.
