Historical richness and influx of business

One of the most emblematic and representative neighborhoods of Barcelona is the Barrio Gótico, the Gothic Quarter. This area is very well located and quite accessible from any part of the city.

It encompases what one could call the old part of Barcelona, there you have many monuments of great heritage and historical value, from medieval buildings and squares, to real relics of the Roman period.

One of the most interesting features is that walking only a few minutes one can see buildings and squares of different time periods. The most outstanding building is the Cathedral of Barcelona, one of the lovely Gothic constructions on a central square.

Also, walking in the winding and paved paths you can feel the medieval atmosphere. This sensation can be felt walking to the different squares like Felipe Neri, Plaza Nova or Plaza del Ángel. Apart from the historical richness of this neighborhood, it has recently witnessed an influx of business and consumption and there are now many fashion shops, restaurants, galleries and bars; all this under a Gothic veil after which the neighborhood is called and fundamental to feel and live Barcelona.

Never boring

The Gothic Quarter of Barcelona is the Eastern part of the Ramblas, the old part of town, where the streets are narrow, the center is pedestrian and it is always so packed it is sometimes hard to walk.

You'll get lost in the streets at first, but you'll catch on soon enough. From little square to small streets, from church to bars, the neighborhood surprises you. You'll definitely never get bored. You can't miss the magnificent Cathedral of the city and various gothic-style churches.

You can climb the tower of the Cathedral to get a panoramic view of the rest of the neighborhood. There are also various museums, Plaza del Rey with the museum of the city for example. Plaza del Rey is one of the most beautiful squares of the old neighborhood. There is also the Palacio Real Mayor, the Palace Chapel, the Palau de Lloctinent, the palace of the owner, which had the archives of the crown of Aragon.

The Gothic Qurter is also the ideal place to go shopping. In the main streets there are the main national and international brands, as well as souvenir shops and typical products of the region, handicraft and gastronomic products.

Soaking up the essence of barcelona

Each spot, each street, each stone makes you vibrate with a different story. Going through the streets and mixing up with the people is soaking up the essence of this old Barcelona, so many times described and with so many things still to be discovered that no visitor can remain indifferent.

The heart of barcelona.

The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) is truly the heart of the city of Barcelona. It was there, in the middle of a beautiful maze of old streets, we discover the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Eulalia (Seu dubbed in Catalan), with its 80 m boom and cloister houses a small garden where 13 geese live figure symbolizing the age of Sainte Eulalie died a martyr. They are there since the Middle Ages supposed to protect the premises from intruders. Nearby, Carrer del Bisbe, a sort of bridge-balcony (archi photographed) crosses the street. Yes, street carrer said here: we are in Catalonia, the official language is Catalan, not Spanish (do not panic, Spanish is spoken and understood there too). And Catalan people are very attached to their cultural identity. The idea of independence of Catalunya is also a recurring topic of discussion. Plaça del Pi, the Placa del Rei and Placa Nova is a little nerve centers of the Barri Gotic, which is nevertheless peaceful face the excitement of Las Ramblas. Plaça Sant Jaume, on the front of the "Casa de l'Ardiaca" (which now houses the City Archives), a curious mailbox: the turtle was the slow pace of justice, and the swallows, the speed with which lawyers want to argue; this building was once the headquarters of the Barcelona Bar. That explains it ...

Ceci explique cela...

Always different

The Gothic Quarter is the biggest memory I have today of medieval Barcelona, and is a very atmospheric place with a special atmosphere, and to relive the past in times of revival fashions. After several years living here, I've discovered two absolute truths about this place. The first is that, the whole network of ancient streets that form, are enjoyed more drifting aimlessly, and the second is that no time is as above. A beer at any place, a street, a group of street musicians, a tavern hidden an autumn evening ... Everything can change radically amazing and different times. From the beating heart of the neighborhood, where stands the imposing cathedral, to the magnificent Plaza Real, always bustling, surrounded by plenty of bars and a lively nightlife, the Gothic Quarter, as I said, not surprising. Point and part to Born, where cultural offerings, with wonderful museums like the MEAM or Picasso, and many art galleries, is growing. Also you shall be pleasantly surprised with the charm of the Cathedral of the Sea, just off the vibrant Paseo del Born, backed by numerous cafes where every night is ideal for a jazz alternative. In short, if you seek history, culture, entertainment, art and charming corners, the Gothic always falls short of expectations.

Siempre diferente

Barcelona. barrio gothic.

Barcelona Barcelona ... I want to share with you all MI. That is my Barcelona? Barcelona's medieval Gothic quarter, the narrow alleys and dark stone ... with bows and lampposts ... with faces of stone on the facade, with "bruixas" you look from the cathedral walls. Oi ... are not witches, are the ornaments of medieval leaks ... Best time to get lost in the shadows of the wind (for me!) Is the Sunday morning, when there are no tourists and car shops genre. Also not bad walk around this area at dusk ... But watch with bags;)) ... Best view to explain the pictures and VIDEO: Another day ' http://youtu.be/l02gunxfkeo' share with you my other Barcelona, Barcelona sea and from the sea .... Incidentally, Gonzalo, I can "climb" on this page my creative work on the Gothic quarter if on Youtube? It's very nice, really!

Gtico neighborhood, barcelona

Barcelona, capital of Catalonia, Spain, is a modern, cosmopolitan and innovative. There you find people around the world, who move between streets and modern buildings of innovative design. But not everything is contemporary and current 'Barna', as it is commonly called. The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) is an example of how the 'story', the 'old' can mingle with the 'new' form of integrated and non-competitive. This is one of the neighborhoods that form the Old Town (Ciutat Vella) and Barcelona where he was born. It was the places I liked to visit the city because there all buzzing. Formed by stone buildings of the period of the Middle Ages and narrow streets that form a maze through which is well worth getting lost! Here you will find cute shops, restaurants and bars, as well as some of the most important administrative buildings of Barcelona. You can also find street performers, tourists, explorers and locals who come and go to their homes and their jobs. It is also in the Gothic Quarter which is the San Felipe Neri Church and the Cathedral of Barcelona. The neighborhood is lovely and it is no coincidence that served as a location for scenes in the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona, directed by Woody Allen. Eating and drinking can be cheaper there than in the Ramblas, for example. Take the opportunity to enjoy a good paella or traditional tapas.

Medieval heart of the old city, the g...

Medieval heart of the old city, the Gothic Quarter, one of the most enjoyable and also more tourist, was formed on a Roman site 2000 years old! Moreover, the municipality and the Catalan government president currently on the site of the old forum. Filled with history and nostalgia, it exudes a special atmosphere there is a small town within the big city. Random maze of narrow streets that wind down to the sea, so you can come across Roman ruins, columns stored in the yard of a house, for example. Shopaholics will love them the famous Avinguda del Portal del Angel, full of shops, including a huge H & M. Food lovers and revelers prefer the streets that separate the Carrer de Ferran port, with of course the famous Plaça Reial. It's only fun to frolic in this area, it is full of nice little shops, places where tapas or a glass. Quieter than the modern, more picturesque center also was fun to get lost. We've never finished discovering all its secrets. Metro: Liceu stop on L3 or Jaume I on the line L4.

The center of barcelona

The Gothic Quarter is the leading destination for any visitor to Barcelona, and this neighborhood of narrow streets, historic buildings and street performers on every corner is one of the most beautiful and interesting places of Barcelona. A visit to the Cathedral Square, with strange letters of Barcelona, the bridge linking the cathedral to the adjacent building above the street, and one of the many small squares that dot the Gothic. In one, whose name I forget, no bullet marks on the shooting of civil war. Gothic is a neighborhood with a lot of history, and that is very full of tourists, you can always find some street and square with no one.

Back to the middle ages

Nape was earlier in Barcelona.Yo I imagined a city like many other high buildings, skyscrapers, streets without personality, until I stumbled on the streets of the Gothic Quarter. I spent two of the 3 days I was trying to travel to photograph every corner of this wonderful part of Barcelona. Although crowded with tourists had moments where no one passed and breathed tranquility. These narrow streets with walls of other centuries that evoked me to other times Iglesias every street, almost collapsed houses but with a special flavor. All that explains falls short. From now one of my favorite spots.

The gothic quarter

This area might seem insignificant, nevertheless it is the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, one of the most popular areas of the city. This neighborhood has a history that the city has preserved and highlight.

Suggestions in the shadows of the gothic quarter

The Gothic Quarter of Barcelona is the most comprehensive neighborhood XXIII and the fourteenth century in Spain, with buildings of various kinds, churches, houses, the cathedral, the town hall, factories, etc.. Its magical atmosphere has been the background of the novels of Carlos Ruiz Zafon ("The Shadow of the Wind", "Marina"). So the author describes the city: "... is a city haunted, gets under your skin and steals the soul before you can realize it."

When we look at a map or satellite view of Barcelona, it is not difficult to identify immediately the Gothic Quarter: while most of the streets and avenues of the capital are parralèles and intersect at right angles, forming pates regular houses, the Gothic Quarter is a labyrhinthe small streets where it is good to lose and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the medieval city. We believe it almost, as the details are still present on the front of houses that do not seem to have changed since the Middle Ages!

Getting lost in the gothic quarter

It is a pleasure to come to Barcelona and go feel the atmosphere of the city's Gothic Quarter. It is part of the old city center and is a maze of alleys, a stack of houses, a series of squares and bars. It should really go without a plan, get lost in the streets, discovering the real Spain, although the area is very touristy shot. But this neighborhood is really all that is Spanish, evidenced by sheets hanging from windows, colors and smells. Do not miss the huge cathedral, a jewel of Gothic architecture. To make absolutely to discover Barcelona

The district Ghotic is both an image of the Middle ageuse Barcelona architecture but also an unconditional place shopping Barcelona. Located next to the Ramblas, you can access it by turning on one of the narrow streets you will see going up the Ramblas (the Beach to Plaza Catalunya). Be careful not to get lost, as the narrow streets are numerous. It is also a historical place, with the Palace of Music, the chapel of San Jordi, the Cathedral of the Holy Creu ...
