A very unique cave

It may have visited a lot of caves before, but none like Grotta di Ispinigoli.

As you enter the mouth of the cave, you’re all of a sudden face to face with a massive rock formation almost 40 meters high. The formation is a natural column formed by the union of a stalactite and a stalagmite. It’s simply awesome. It’s the largest cave column in Europe and the second largest in the world.

A tip: dress warmly. The temperatures in the cave hovers round 20ºC (60ºF) throughout the year and you’ll need a sweater and make sure to bring good walking shoes or even boots. If you follow these simple tips, your visit to Grotta di Ispinigoli will be great.

Largest cave column in Europe

This is an unusual cave: it’s home to the largest cave column in Europe which measures 38 meters high. It’s made up of a 37-meter stalagmite that has fused with a 1-meter stalactite. It’s a real shame that you can’t take photos or videos though I’ll say there were quite a few people who openly flaunted the rule. This photo was taken at the entrance to the cave. It’s not a very good photo but you can still see the column.
