The orchard of Norway
After four hard days on the high plateau of fjord land, the sunny gardens of this hostel were the perfect place to relax. The building is a residential school open to tourists in the summer. It is extremely cost effective, has a free sauna and the buffet breakfast is extensive.
It makes a good base to explore Ullensvang. This area, despite being at 60' north, is the Orchard of Norway. The fact filled "Fruit trail" is highly recommended. The first trees were introduced by monks 800 years ago and clergy have had an important role ever since.
