A historic symbol

The Haymarket Clock Tower is a symbol of the historic center of Leicester. It is also the most popular meeting point before going out into the neighborhood. This was the former intersection of the five major roads in the city. It is now a pedestrian area surrounded by shops.There are a few shops among the wooden medieval houses. But most of these were destroyed in the eighteenth century to make way for new development. The clock tower was built in 1868 in the middle of a roundabout which organized traffic.
