2 reviews of Hohentübingen Castle

In style!

Excellent

This palace-castle is situated on top of the city. Although it began in the twelfth century it was not completed until the sixteenth century. After suffering battles, destruction and some blasts in different parts, today it has become the icon of this city. It is a mixture of medieval castle, fortress and a typical construction of the region. Since 1997 it houses the Museum of the University of Tübingen, with teaching collections of the Institute of Prehistory and Early History, Classical Archaeology, Numismatics and Egyptology work, and a collection of molds Near East. There's even a warehouse where they breed bats (vampires) the world's largest.

One of the oldest buildings

Hohentübingen Castle, at the top of the city, is the oldest known building in Tübingen. The first documents of the fortress date from 1708. Until 1231 the settlement that took place in the fortress did not become a city. The building has a large central courtyard with a long driveway. It houses a museum with historical collections. The South Gate ( Unteres Tor [/ I]), was Renaissance portal of the year 1606. From the wall enjoy a nice view. The walk that leads to the castle is beautiful. Once up in the gardens you can relax in one of its banks while enjoying the landscape and tranquility. Take your time.
