Sleep in a prison
The last night I spent in New Zealand, I slept in a hostel for backpackers called Jailhouse. It has recently become well-known. It is about 25 minutes walk from the train station and about the same from the center of town. It is an old jail, built in 1874. There are single, double, triple and quadruple rooms and family rooms with 5 beds. You can also get rooms with a double bed. There is a small theater upstairs, a kitchen and internet connection.
