Cheap and comfortable
La Quinta Inn is an excellent option wherever you are. The rooms are cheap, clean and functional, and the breakfasts are wonderful (they even have waffle-makers!). All La Quinta Inns have pools and wi-fi at no extra cost. Most also have gyms. They're especially good if you're on a road-trip because most are located near the highway. We got a room at the one in San Antonio near the I 87 highway which connects with the Loop 410.
