Beautiful memories

I was biking through the Yucatan and one of the most beautiful memories I have is when arriving at Bacalar Lagoon after cycling down a rural road outside Chetumal. It's a beautiful natural lake surrounded only by natural barriers like coral and vegetation. There are cabins around the lake where you can stay to enjoy the lake, but it's true that much of the shore is private property. The lagoon is really big, so biking is perfect because you can go for a little ways, have a swim, eat, and go snorkeling at your leisure. It's completely uncrowded and you can go water-skiing, sailing, scuba diving, and snorkeling, though it's better to go to the n nearby coral reef..

Speechless...

Bacalar Lagoos left me speechless, but I hope this photo does the place justice. It's an amazing place to visit and one of the best-preserved natural areas in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Unforgettable place

Bacalar Lagoon is an unforgettable place where the colors of the lake seem to bleed into those of the sky. The wealth of nature in the area makes you just want to relax and connect with the Earth.

A magical colorful

I would say they are more than 7 colors that can be seen in this paradise of natural beauty, but it is impossible to count. But no doubt it has a magical and colorful contemplate is a fascinating spectacle. We could do sailing aboard a catamaran (you can also rent a canoe). Various shades of blue vary with the different depths of each zone, from the deep dark blue cenotes, a whitish shades that reveal the white calcareous sandy bottom, through endless sky blue and turquoise. There are so shallow areas you cover the ankle. We got off the catamaran in one of these areas where we had occasion to make us a peculiar "beauty treatment" was amazing how soft our body peeling us home after rubbing with a mixture of white sand and sulfur water. This beautiful lake is the second largest in the country, is almost 60 miles from end to end. Succeed in its perimeter small fishing villages and trails leading to places of lush vegetation and abundant wildlife inhabited by various species of birds such as woodpeckers, toucans, parrots, white owls, eagles, pelicans ... It is a freshwater lake but is interconnected with others. Connects north Guerrero gaps and Chile Verde, which in turn are also communicated Chetumal Bay, so it also has brackish water. To the south is connected with the Hondo River channel through Chac. This aquatic complex network was an important trade route. Until the mid-twentieth century these canals were used to transport timber to Chetumal, and at other times, the English pirates went deep into this territory in search of valuable Belize logwood. One thing that surprised me is that this wonderful environment remains unspoiled. It is only frequented by the locals, no resorts or tourism (and that does not lack potential), but hopefully it stays that way. In fact, in the cruise port of Mahahual there was no operator to offer this excursion.

During my bike trip through the yucat...

During my bike trip through the Yucatan, one of the fondest memories I have is the moment when, out of the city of Chetumal, and after a number of relatively unpleasant km on a motorway saturated traffic I arrived at the Bacalar Lagoon. It is a beautiful natural area such as a large lake when in reality it is an arm of the sea, the only difference being that it is surrounded by natural coral reefs and vegetation. There are bungalows around the lagoon to enjoy its waters are not resting a few days, which is sad by cons is that most of the coast is privately owned, so you bathe in the small beach your hotel but not elsewhere, unless they have paid a consumer ... The lagoon is relatively large, however, and there are still some wild corners. For those camping, there are also some land to pitch a tent. To go to this bike is the best, because you drive a little, you can swim, we drive, we plunge into the water, picnic and rests, it is also perfectly protected from the traffic. One can enjoy water sports, water skiing, sailing, and even dive, but the funds are not as rich as those of the coral reef nearby.

Heaven on earth

There is a corner in Bacalar, Quintana Roo called Rancho Encantado, where for a few dollars you can have the most unforgettable experience of your life. Not only is eating delicious local dishes and enjoy the palapa in the lagoon lying in a hammock for hours, we find peace and forget about any problems, leave behind the chaos to immerse yourself in the most beautiful sunset you've never seen the sun, surrounded by a lagoon of 7 colors enjoying nature at its best. When I want to relax, wherever you are, I am transported to Rancho Encantado in Bacalar.
