30 reviews of Lekeitio

Small and Colorful

If you love ports as much as I do, then you will have a great time in Lekeitio. Located 55 kilometers from Bilbao has a very pretty old town, especially around “Gamarra Enparantza”, a place that was used since old times as a market, and that today links the old neighborhood of Dendari with the Arranegi one, inhabited by sea folks.

It is worthwhile to wander through these corners, but there is nothing like the town port to really have a good time. It is small and colorful, full of fishing boats painted in colors. The port of Lekeitio is alive at any time of the day.

In the morning it is quite fascinating to see the fishermen return with their catch and to select and separate the fish from the seafood and to prepare everything for the auction in the marketplace.

Lekeitio

Experts say that this strip of coast has been inhabited since 30,000 B.C., but we are satisfied with knowing that our official history begins in 1325, almost eight centuries ago.

In all this time we, the people from Lekeitio, have been sculpting our town over the cliffs of the Bay of Biscay. It is a commitment of mutual respect with our surroundings that has resulted in this small town, perfectly integrated in a magnificent place.

Lekeitio has always been a town overlooking the sea: whale hunters, adventurers and navigators; centuries ago, men and women have already been linked to activities related to fishing and the sea. This relationship has molded the character of its people: cheerful, enterprising and hospitable.

Great

Lively village in summer, located on a beautiful coast. It's worth a detour if you're close.
