Lighthouse of Cape Lastres

Everybody knows it as the Faro de Lastres, but its official name is Faro de Cabo de Lastres, and it receives the name of the biggest municipality, Lastres, but it should really be Faro de Luces since it is located in the Luces region, which belongs to the Colunga Town Council.

By day it looks like a white cylinder tower and the views are really indescribable, since you can see the entire coast, from the Rodiles beach to the next lighthouse, the lighthouse of Tazones.

It is 117 meters above sea level and its illumination system is really impressive, since it is composed of 10 lamps that give 5 white flashes every 25 seconds.

When we arrived in Lastres we couldn’t even park the car, there was no place. We tried a parking lot far from the downtown area, it was also full. When we went out of the town we saw a sign that said: Faro de Lastres. We followed it, parked the car and continued by foot.

We thought we were in Ireland, green meadows, foggy sky and cliffs. It smelled like wild thyme, there were cows grazing peacefully and blackberries and blueberries on the side of the road.

If you go to Lastres in August, don’t even stop there, go to the lighthouse and have a picnic!
