3 reviews of Malheiras House and Chapel

In the historic center

This chapel in the historic center is near the Cathedral of Viana and it gets its name as it's attached to Malheiro Reimão House, the bishop of Rio de Janeiro had it built in the eighteenth century. It's one of the best examples of Portuguese Baroque architecture and it's design is attributed to Nasoni. The façade is highly decorated and the granite is carved with floral motifs. It's dedicated to St. Francis de Paul with a polychrome wooden altarpiece with Rococo carving. The attached house is notable for its horizontality and symmetry, the front being the central axis with the family crest.
