Mandaly was the last capital of Myanmar that fell into the hands of the British and is still of importance as the cultural capital. It is Myanmar's 2nd biggest city and was founded in the year 1857. Dusty during the hot season , Mandalay is a sprawling city. In the year 1981, a fire destroyed a number of buildings along the river bank, but did not affect any of its monuments. Mandalay is straight, but the city is very long.
