Largest catholic church in uruguay

Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral has stood for over 100 years in Plaza Ituzaingo in the heart of the historic district of Montevideo. It's the largest Catholic church in Uruguay and is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and the Apostles Philip and James. It was declared as a National Historic Landmark. In its early years, it was used as a military stronghold to defend against attacks. It has also been used as a place of refuge, and for years was a silent witness to demonstrations and protest movements in times of war. It is not very large or ornate, but is quite nice in a quaint sort of way. It has an extensive schedule of masses, and is located very close to the courthouse, so many couples celebrate their wedding here.

Main roman catholic church in the city

Linda, the main Catholic church of Montevideo is located across from a beautiful square, the Plaza Constitucion. Our guide told us many stories of the church in which are buried the country's military and ecclesiastical authorities. It is a tourist spot and have to stop to meet her. When you see her out, can not imagine how beautiful it is there, unlike many beautiful cathedrals which are already out of the architecture.

Iglesia matriz

Also called church of San Juan (Saint John), the Iglesia Matriz is located on the square of the same name and pass almost unnoticed as its exterior architecture does not belong to any known religious style. A simple building with a cross in front to indicate its input. Inside, it is quite another thing. There are of a nave, with gilts and Christic statues and two side chapels announced by two huge statues and the tabernacle of St. John.

Iglesia matriz

The cathedral of montevideo is one of...

The Cathedral of Montevideo is one of the few remaining buildings from the colonial era. The exterior is very clean, but the inside looked very richly decorated me and worked. Matriz Square, where the cathedral is very nice to rest.
