Mausoleo Shahr-i-Zindah

3 reviews of Mausoleo Shahr-i-Zindah

a hidden treasure

The Shahr-i-Zindah mausoleum is in Samarkand, a hidden treasure in this city whose most famous place is the Registan Square. The name means "tomb of King Living", and it's a complex of tombs that house families and Ulughbeck Timur. Today it's a major goal for many Uzbeks pilgrims who come in their trucker hats, scarves, flowery print dresses ... They are mixed with a wonderful symphony of different shades of blue tiles, reminiscent of Iranian mosques and also brought by Persian-teachers, domes, arches, and geometric motifs ... We arrived at a current cemetery where many graves exhibit the face of the deceased on a screen with photos, a trend already happening in other places as far away as Vietnam.
