Archbishop Meriño's Tomb

This mausoleum that houses the remains of the Metropolitan Archbishop Monsignor Fernando Arturo de Merio (also President of the Republic), is in the Chapel of San Cosme and San Damin, inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria. It is a small, ancient chapel covered by a brick dome with a lantern. Its name comes from the old golden altarpiece which used to stand here, containing images of Saint Cosme and Saint Damian, who were both doctors. The mausoleum was made of white marble in the early twentieth century, and is topped by the recumbent statue of the Archbishop.
