I had only decided to climb in the Tetons the morning before, and even after setting out from the Lulpine Meadows trailhead I was planning to climb the South Teton. Halfway up, however, a chat with a more experienced hiker made me think I should abandon plans to climb smaller South Teton and go for the Middle instead. The trail to the meadows camping area was easy, and beyond that things got rocky and steep. I was at the saddle after three hours, overlooking Icefloe Lake, and started up the southwest couloir after a short break. The chute was steep and had ice and snow from a storm the night before; there are also a few spots where small rock climbing moves were needed -- but nothing technical.
