Upper part of the gorges of the huécar

It was getting late and I did not want to leave Cuenca without having a complete view of what the city is in its totality: both the old part with monuments and the modern part. In order to achieve this, there is nothing better than taking the car and going to the Cerro Socorro in the upper part of the Huécar gorges. We went out of the city along the Huecar River and passed by the Parador Nacional de Turismo and the convent of San Pablo. We stopped there for a little while to watch this wonderful and well-preserved building and then followed the way along the river.

Before arriving to kilometer 5, at about 50 meters, we turned right and started going up a small road that, although paved, is very narrow, so one has to be careful when crossing with another car. At the end of it, we could appreciate the view of the city and the countryside all around us: the monuments, the new buildings, the typical neighborhoods of Castillo, Tiradores and San Antón that surround the city, the Auditoro Theater, Ars Natura, symbols of modernity, the San Pablo Bridge... The clean environment and silence invited us to meditate. It is worth going there.

Excellent viewpoint

The Cerro Socorro is an excellent viewpoint of the city of Cuenca. It was built in the fifties, using donkeys to carry materials on their backs. In the upperpart of the hill, there is a monument of Jesus' Sacred Heart. From many places in Cuenca, one can see the lovely hill and the sculpture of the Christ at the top.

Beautiful sunset

From the Cerro del Socorro has probably the best view of the city of Cuenca and surroundings. The Hanging Houses, Parador, and the New Town, stretching around your feet and gets especially nice when the sun begins to hide. It's almost impossible not to see the Cerro del Socorro as a huge Christ perched on a high pedestal five times he presides. El Salvador monitored with an eye perched city, and with the other I guess that takes care of the balance not saved pureed finish on the floor. Just in case a statue of Mary, his mother, is waiting on the ground (perhaps to take it on the fly if necessary?). Anyway, the view from this place is very nice. Perhaps the best around. If you dare you can get away a little door and down the slope (there is a sort of caminillos that at the foot of lookout but very careful, or you Carefully lower despeñarás open). There, in the middle of nature, you will see a sunset dream and no less beautiful, turn of the lights of the city. Well worth it.

Are these some of the best views of c...

Are these some of the best views of Cuenca (but the best). We approach the evening and it was great to see the sun and the light houses perched on an image tale. Although the view from the official viewpoint (below the statue) is fine, I recommend you go down a little more walking up the slope and you will find very interesting angles to photograph.
