Dignifying the figure of the founder
Alfonso IX is considered to be the founder of Bayonne. This monument is situated on the marina of Bayonne, on the road which leads up to the hostel. It was built in the year 2001 to mark the 8th centenary of the foundation of Bayonne as a Villa Real. The sculptor is Juan de Oliveira Viéitez.
