Moussem of Candles
This unusual festival takes place each year in Salé, the day before the Mouloud Aid, the birthday of the prophet Mahomet and a Muslim holiday, which date changes each year. The day before there was a procession through the city of Salé, carrying colored candles to the main mosque. They are works of art in the form of bells with many small candles, drawings and writings by religious figures. The party starts around 4 or 5 pm and then the traditional bands play all night. Meanwhile, the King attends a religious ceremony in the evening on the other side of the river in Rabat.
