Municipality of Gorse (Barcena Mayor)

The village of Barcena Mayor is in the municipality of Gorse, and is the only settlement that is within the reservation of Sakha. This village is a great example of rural Cantabria, interior rural villages. It is said to be the oldest town in Cantabria and maybe even Spain. It was declared a historic-artistic in the year 1979 due to its state of preservation, during Ormaechea government they conducted a "facelift", arranged the access road, leading to one of the villages most visited in the region, not only for its architecture but also for its gastronomic culture (mountain stew or game meat is common there).
