Nuestra Señora del Rosario Cathedral

3 reviews of Nuestra Señora del Rosario Cathedral

Unique architecture

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary of Cafayate is located in the centre of the Calchaqui Valley. It's one of three churches in Argentina with five names, but differs from the other northern churches for its unique architecture. It's located just off the flower-filled Main Plaza. It was built in 1895 because the old church was in ruins. It was designed by architect Peter Coll and is composed of two lateral towers, each with a bell tower. Three striking inside doors lead to the atrium. In the main altar, one can see Calafate's patron saint, Our Lady of the Rosary, which they call "La Sentadita"
