The heart of Barbagia

The beautiful town of Nuoro is located in the heart of Barbagia in central Sardinia not far from the Gulf of Orosei. The city is very ancient, with the first recorded settlement dating back to the 17th century BC. This explains the historic and artistic wealth found in the old town and the fascinating churches like Chiesa della Solitudine church on the slopes of Mt. Ortobene (that’s where the remains of Grazia Deledda are held). You also shouldn’t miss a visit to the home of the famous writer (she was awarded the Nobel prize in 1936) or the Church of San Carlo in the Piazza Satta. Another plus that Nuoro offers is the ability to take daytrips to both the coast and the mountains.
