Many ceremonies and rituals

The Oruro Carnival takes place in Oruro, in the Republic of Bolivia. It's a mining and ceremonial centre of great importance, since precolonial times. It's the result of a process that comes from remote ancestral practices, where preparation lasts throughout the year with many ceremonies and rituals. The moment of greatest visibility and importance is the traditional dates of the Carnival. The high land of the Urus, an American cultural synthesis, opens its doors to pilgrims and invites the world to witness the biggest party in Bolivia. The festival honours the Blessed Virgin of the Tunnel patron of Oruro, whose townspeople express their devotion through indigenous folklore dances, summarizing the nation's cultural identity.
