Cave of the Buddhas

Getting to Pindaya from Heho requires patience. The roads, like nearly all in Myanmar, are narrow, curvy and with little asphalt. Once in Pindaya, the caves are easy to find, just look to the top of the hill and follow the road lined with stalls. The first thing is the entrance to the caves, a huge spider, as that animal is the symbol of the city. After passing through the entrance you can take the elevator to the caves themselves. And what do we find? An unusual collection of Buddhas occupying every free inch of the walls of the rocks. In the last two centuries, pilgrims have been donating various Buddha images - over 8000 statues.
