First consecration of the Plaza of the Virgin

It is named after the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary that Pope Pius XII made, in the language Portuguese, on 31 October in the year 1942. This expanse that goes out from the Basilica to the Church of the Holy Trinity, is a huge area that is well lit, and designed to welcome the pilgrims who visit from all around the globe, who are not able to do so within the Sanctuary. Inside one can find: the "Cruz Alta" which was conducted by Robert Schad of Germany and the Statue of Juan Pablo II authored by Czeslaw Dzwigai, a Polish compatriot.
