3 reviews of Place de la République

One of the best places in Paris

One of the best places in Paris is Republic Square, at the junction of Boulevard du Temple, Saint-Martin, Magenta et Voltaire, Avenue of the Republic and the streets René Boulanger, Léon Jouhaux and du Faubourg du Temple. Don't miss it because is has a lot of subway lines (3, 5, 8, 9, 11). The square is rectangular and was created by Hausmann in 1854. It has two gardens on either side of a central monument dedicated to the Republic. The monument was built in 1883 by Jules Dalou and consists of a 15 meter high stone pedestal on which stands a 9.5 meter bronze statue of the Republic, wearing a toga and carrying in his right hand an olive branch and in the left tablets with human rights laws.
