Plaza Bib-Rambla

If there is something I love in Granada it is the atmosphere. It is a city full of history, with an exceptional heritage attracting tourists' from all over the world. But there is nothing compared to seeing the night falling on one of the small squares. It has a special feeling, as if time stopped.

One of the most famous is Bib-Rambla ("Gate of the river") where the Muslim would celebrate the souk. Throughout time the souk has become a labyrinth called Alcaicería. Going there is a must if one wants to understand Granada. It is located just next to this central square. Actually, trading is still the main activity around this square since most of the trade in Granada is concentrated in this area. The traffic is constant all day long, I prefer going there when it gets dark and the place gets quieter.

Bib Rambla is my favorite plaza in all of Granada, and once you step foot there it's not hard to imagine why. The Plaza is vaguely-touristy (just look at the grey-hair-and-camera groups in some of the terraces), but it's also an authentic hive of activity right off Reyes Catolicos avenue in downtown. The buildings are beautiful and the square is filled with musicians, people watchers, terraces, flowers, and shoppers out for the day. If you want to get the true feeling of the melting-pot which is Granada, get away from Paseo de los Tristes for a few minutes (but only a few) and head to Bib Rambla
