Harmonious

It's a beautiful plaza, hidden behind the Valencia Cathedral. In the plaza you’ll find the Basílica de los Desamparados (the Basilica of the forsaken), a back door to the cathedral, that of the Apostles and other historic buildings, one is now the Palacio de la Generalitat (Government Palace), the other has become a public library ... All around the square is ancient, historical, and very harmonious. Furthermore, the plaza is quiet, pedestrian, like time has stopped. It's nice to come and sit in the evening when it is not so hot, children are playing, grandparents chatting, and life passes quietly.

In the centre of the plaza is the water fountain and main canal which represents the Turia River, now dry, and its importance to the region of Valencia. At night, it’s all lit up but not a harsh light, it’s warm, almost orange, reflected in the stone of buildings creating a very relaxed atmosphere.

The heart of valencia

Beside the plaza de la Cathedral I found this square closed off to traffic and where there are plenty of people enjoying the sun and the relaxed atmosphere. There are a few cafes, from which one can drink a horchata whilst contemplating the Cathedral, the Virgin of the forsaken Church or just simply watch the evening pass. The Neptune fountain is found here in honour of the Turia River, from this plaza many streets have their origin allowing us to get to know the centre of Valencia. A highly recommended visit.

Valencian protagonist

It is the ground Zero of the historic centre of Valencia. Meeting place of Valencians', tourists, young, old, musicians, skaters.... All kinds of people and activity. Protagonist of the major festivals and public events in Valencia. A Place with great history behind it, since the Greek era. Such a mix of antiquity, modernity and diversity give it a special atmosphere, especially on spring nights.

Plaza de la virgen and set catedralcio

Being in this place and go a whole is 21 centuries of history, heritage treasures such as the Cathedral of Valencia, Miguelete (without losing sight of the whole city from the top of the tower with its huge bells), the Basilica of the Virgin or Almoina. Also if you have the chance to be in the Door of the Apostles of the Cathedral of Valencia on a Thursday at 12:00 noon you can enjoy the Water Court, Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and unique legislative structure remains of those established by James I in which justice is delivered through an oral process in the Valencian language whose decisions are final. What form eight farmers who still wear her black blouse typical of the people of the Garden, which are democratically elected every two years by the irrigators remaining the same.

The plaza de la virgen, in the heart ...

The Plaza de la Virgen, in the heart of the city, is the site of an ancient Roman forum. It is surrounded by emblematic buildings of the city: the Cathedral of St. Mary, the basilica of the Virgen de los Desemparados, Almodí (a 15th century barn converted into a temporary exhibition hall) and the Palau de la Generalitat , seat of the regional government of Valencia. In the center of the square is a majestic fountain that represents the irrigation of the Rio Turia. Around the square there are a few cafes with terraces. It is on the Plaza de la Virgen that runs the offering of flowers, one of the most moving events of the Fallas.

The plaza de la virgen - instead of t...

The Plaza de la Virgen - instead of the Virgin in French - is a central place from Valencia. This site is located in the Carmen district between plaza de la reina - instead of the queen - and the central market. This place is always busy day and night. There are many bars offering local drinks. At night, the place is very pretty with all its lights. When I lived in Valencia, I liked to drink a glass of agua de Valencia or Sangria on the spot. It is very nice in the summer to get some fresh air.

The plaza de la virgen is one of the ...

The Plaza de la Virgen is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever see the heart of a city. Located in the old city of Valencia, in the famous "Barrio del Carmen", this place is majestic, day and night, for open buildings full of history and sumptuous: Santa Maria Cathedral, the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desemparados Palacia and the Generalitat. Terraces overlooking the square used to enjoy the excitement that prevails continuously while enjoying a "Canadian" or a glass of "Eau de Valencia".

The plaza de la virgen in valncia

The Plaza de la Virgin is like the "Plaza Mayor" of the city. Must see tourist spot in Valencia, is in the middle of the historic center of the capital, surrounded by bars and restaurants, as always ... Have all Spanish city are well. The Plaza de la Virgen is where the cathedral and where is always full of people. Tourists photograph, families strolling, and comes and goes gorgeous ... who gives life to the environment. The call to enjoy the best weather of the square is during the late afternoon, sit on one of the bar and have a typical "red summer" which is nothing more than tinho wine with lemon fanta ... a delight!

Valenciano birth and pamplona residen...

Valenciano birth and Pamplona resident for 25 years, this summer was taking pictures of this fountain, when a kind lady offered to explain the allegorical meaning of the figures of the source, thinking I was a tourist. By chance, when I took his mistake, turned out he was born in the same neighborhood and I was teaching public school where I studied primary school which opened about 50 years ago.
