Plaza del Sol

It is one of the most acclaimed squares in the Gracia neighborhood. Perfect to go and have a drink and tapas at night. There is always a lively atmosphere on the square, sometimes a group of young people playing music, jugglers, skateboarders, etc. It is one of the classics of the neighborhood.

Around the square, bars get full according to the direction of the sun, but after 7 pm it is hard to find a table. You can't choose your bar anymore, you just sit wherever you can. The prices are quite acceptable.

In the center of the square there is a sculpture by Joaquim Camps called Astrolabi.

Plaça del Sol is one of the most famous and busiest squares of Gracia. The fact unknown by many travelers is that the name of the square comes from the sculpture you can find there, Astrolabi, a solar clock with the twelve zodiac signs designed by Joaquim Camps. On the square there are tapas bars and terraces, music and and a lively, very lively atmosphere.

I visited this square hoping to simply relax. The picture does not have anything to do with what I saw...There were a bunch of people sitting on the floor, drinking out of glasses and cans!!! Others were sitting at tables in the middle of a square a local organization had brought. I asked what the matter was. A lady explained to me: The neighbors were tired of the noise, which surpasses in decibels the limits allowed by the EU and recommended by WHO. The square had stopped being a place for everyone to hang out and relax but a degraded public space. They were having a meeting at to send petitions and protests to the local government against the noise and illegal drinking on the streets.
